Greenfield Partners
The 10,000 sqft offices for Greenfield Partners are located in a 100,000 sqft former Lock factory that has been revitalized as a mixed-use project. Their portion of the building includes the former boiler room and adjacent foundry space. The raw, rugged industrial nature of the existing space was celebrated in the office conversion.
The space is entered either under an exposed steel truss from the parking area, or via a serpentine steel corridor from the main building's lobby. The perimeter offices are arranged around a central "Living Room", with a kitchen at one end and a fireplace at teh other. These elements are organized by a twisted grid that creates a dialogue with the underlying heavy timber truss structural system.
The curving translucent fiberglass office walls are intended to soften the hard edges of the industrial aesthetic with a more lyrical vocabulary. The new, rusted steel fireplace alludes to the foundry ovens that once occupied the space. The cold rolled steel enclosure around the kitchen also recalls the space's industrial past.
The company's Board Room is located in the former boiler room, where pre-existing catwalks and one of the original boilers are preserved in the 26' high space. A 5'x15' conference table was fashioned out of 3/4" steel plate, with a 18' long steel plate chandelier suspended above. This space opens up to a private garden.
