South Norwalk,
Connecticut Our own office is found in a two-story brick building recently restored by our firm. A new two-story brick façade encloses an entry stair leading to the second level. The sculptural steel stair and color-impregnated plaster walls of the entry lobby are a sharp contrast to the character of traditional commercial interiors. The second floor, offering commanding views of Main Street, now houses studios for design professionals. Circulation is provided by a series of chambers that offer an uncommon architectural experience. Our office is conceptually organized as a series of four zones: a formal entry gallery adorned with exhibition work, an open work zone oriented toward large exterior windows, a resource zone defined by an arcade and adjacent wall, and a private interior zone containing a conference room, print room, and office. A slightly skewed Portland cement arcade containing the architectural library enters this space, creating an inhabitable wall that is both functional and unique. This element articulates a series of formal relationships with drafting and support spaces as its perspective is exaggerated down the length of the arcade. Galvanized steel ductwork and perforated metal ceiling panels also play an active role in the architectural composition. Services |
